From the 1st October, HIV treatment will be available in England to everyone who needs it, without charge. This change in government policy overturns the previous policy of charging some people, including undocumented or irregular migrants, for HIV treatment. Free treatment is now available to everyone regardless of immigration status. This change, announced in February and implemented today, is the result of sustained campaigning by the HIV sector and represents a real victory in improving the health and wellbeing of Africans living with HIV in the UK.
